Diversification Report

LinkUp publishes a quarterly Job Market Diversification Report assessing job market resilience using LinkUp’s extensive job listing data and exclusive statistical methodology. In our Q4 report we explore job market diversification results for the quarter, and look at overall diversification trends in 2018.

Methodology

 
The Job Market Diversification Report provides a composite score measuring the variety of job opportunities within 150 Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) by industry, company and job category. Cities are scored on a scale out of a possible 160 points, with higher scores indicating more job market diversification.

Job diversification is measured across:



Number of industries
with job openings

Number of companies
with job openings

Number of job categories
with job openings

 Most and Least Diversified Job Markets of 2018 


In this quarter's report we examine how job market diversification scores changed throughout the year. The map below shows the markets with the highest and lowest overall JMDR scores for 2018. We found that two thirds of markets saw stability or growth in their diversification score throughout 2018.
